I just wanted to highly recommend this performance to be included in your 4th of July festivities. I went to this a few years back, actually as part of a class to write a review on it and enjoyed it so much! I wanted to take Raegan last year, but it didn't work out. So I hope to take her this year.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion dons red, white, and blue July 3 for the return of the popular Star-Spangled Salute. This free Independence Eve spectacular features the Houston Symphony in a selection of patriotic favorites, led by Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski. The Symphony performs a variety of traditional favorites, American classics, sing-alongs, and of course, Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" complete with cannons from atop the hill. Also, enjoy a spectacular finale complete with a fireworks display, a first for The Pavilion.

Don't miss commemorating the birth of our nation by joining the Symphony in this grandiose celebration. It's an evening of good, old-fashioned family fun! Pre-concert activities start at 6:30 PM. including a performance by Lord Stirling's Fifes and Drums. The corps honors Lord Stirling, a former British officer who in 1776 commanded troops of the Continental Army from Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Professor Craig Livingston founded the group in 2007 at Lone Star College-Montgomery in the heart of The Woodlands.
